Attention film fans: Lübeck's fascinating city tour starts soon!

The northern German Hanseatic city of Lübeck is not only known for its tasty marzipan production, but also for its impressive film history. From November 5th to 9th, 2025, film fans have the opportunity to discover the city in a very special way: on the “Film off! Lübeck as a film location” city tour. This event, which starts at the Holstentor, promises an exciting combination of culture and cinema.

It always starts at 11:00 a.m. at the H7 Bistro and Bar at Holstentor, Holstentorplatz 7. The program includes the locations of remarkable films such as “Nosferatu – Symphony of Horror” (1922) and “The Blue Angel” (1930). Newer productions such as “Buddenbrooks” (2008), as well as popular series such as “The Duo”, “Solo for Weiss” and “Morden in the North” also have their origins in Lübeck. In addition to visiting the filming locations, participants are also given an insight into the stories behind the scenes, which makes the event particularly attractive for real film lovers and Lübeck connoisseurs. The participation fee is 15 euros per person and the group is limited to 20 people. Registration is possible by email to info.filmab@gmx.de or directly on site.

A look at Lübeck's UNESCO World Heritage Site

Lübeck's old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is a true jewel of northern German architecture. The city has retained its historical charm despite the destruction during World War II. It is surrounded by water, dams and parks and impresses with its silhouette, which is characterized by seven high church towers. The mix of patrician houses from the 15th and 16th centuries, impressive churches and public monuments such as the iconic Holstentor give the city a unique character. These structural masterpieces are not only architectural highlights, but also an important part of the cultural heritage of the Hanseatic League, which resonates with Lübeck's historical significance.

Particularly noteworthy is the Löwen-Apotheke, the oldest pharmacy in the city, which was founded in 1812 and resides in one of the oldest town houses in Lübeck. Remedies are still mixed here today using centuries-old recipes, a tradition that can be traced back to Roman times. In addition, the excavator driver Jürgen Köpsel found an impressive coin collection from the 16th century during excavations in 1984. This includes around 24,000 gold and silver coins that document Lübeck's trading relationships in 1530 and are worth around 1.8 million euros.

The city tour "Film off! Lübeck as a filming location" is not only a sight for cinephiles, but also a unique opportunity to enjoy the historical backdrop and discover the many stories that the city has to tell.
