Ahrensbök Local History Festival: Three days of fun, tradition and excitement!
The anticipation is increasing! From **4. Until July 6, 2025**, the idyllic town of Ahrensbök will be transformed into a pulsating center for partygoers and tradition lovers. The local festival has established itself as an integral part of the region's event calendar and attracts thousands of visitors from near and far. What’s special this year? For the first time since 2016, there will be a marquee that not only creates an exuberant atmosphere, but also offers protection in all weathers. The goal is clear: cozy get-togethers and the maintenance of customs and community are the focus, as the Heimatfest website reports.
But what exactly can visitors expect on these three festive days? On **Friday, July 4th** at 5:00 p.m. the shooters will begin lining up for the royal shooting competition at Gill Huus. A target of honor is shot at to determine the successors of the royal couple. The tent host “Zelt König” from Lübeck opens the catering at the festival site with a variety of activities. And for everyone who likes traditional wooden bird shooting, **Friday** at 6:00 p.m. is scheduled. Afterwards, DJ Paule invites you to sing along to the pop fireworks in the festival tent from 9 p.m. - entry is free!
The program in detail
**Saturday, July 5th** also promises to be a highlight. The participants gather at 8:30 a.m. to pick up their majesties, followed by a culinary offering and various attractions such as can throwing and carousels from 2:00 p.m. The absolute highlight for the little ones will be the children's afternoon at 3 p.m., organized by the women of the riflemen. There are games, support from clubs and face painting by Ocean Ink. The winners of the “bird pecking” can also take part in the pageant on Sunday as children’s kings.
The parade on **Sunday, July 6th** is another item on the program that visitors can look forward to. After the Low German service in St. Mary's Church at 10:45 a.m., the marching bands and parade participants arrive at the town hall from 1:00 p.m. The Ahrensbök Volunteer Fire Department and the DRK are ready to spoil the guests with pea soup and drinks. At 2:00 p.m. the big parade will move through the town, which will once again underline the festive atmosphere.
Tradition and community
Shooting festivals have been popular in Germany for centuries and are community-building events that combine both tradition and joy. As alle-schuetzenvereine.de explains, these festivals attract many visitors every year and convey an exuberant atmosphere. Highlights include the shooting for the new shooting king and festive parades, which offer both visitors and participants an unforgettable experience.
