Bat protectors in a dispute: A20 expansion is on the brink!

A central topic is being discussed in Schleswig-Holstein this week: the further construction of the A20 motorway. Negotiations between the Kiel Ministry of Transport and the environmental organization BUND begin on Tuesday and are centered around the future of a controversial construction phase near Bad Segeberg. Preparations for the crucial meeting are underway, as the cabinet meets in the morning, while the BUND state executive board meets for consultations in the evening.

A success of these negotiations could mean that the BUND would forego a lawsuit against the construction phase near Bad Segeberg. This would not only save time, but also tax money and avoid delays in the construction process, similar to what BUND state manager Ole Eggers emphasizes. In the past, the project was stopped in 2013 when the Federal Administrative Court deemed bat protection inadequate.

Focus on protecting bats

A central point in the negotiations is the protection of bats that hibernate in the Segeberg Kalkberg caves, the largest wintering grounds in Germany. However, Eggers warns against excessive expectations of the construction, which he considers to be harmful to the environment. Discussions with the state government and the state planning and construction company Deges are obviously ongoing intensively.

A waiver of legal action could also make it possible for construction work on the section between Weede and Wittenborn to actually begin in 2026. Deges estimates the current construction costs at around 550 million euros. The Bundestag could also approve funding in November if the negotiations come to a positive end.

In this context, the FDP state parliamentary group is calling for more transparency regarding the financial resources that should be used for the project. Transport Minister Claus Ruhe Madsen (CDU) is relatively cautious about the negotiations and the possible results.

In a completely different world there is news from the smartphone scene. The Samsung Galaxy A20, which came onto the market on April 5, 2019 and is now considered discontinued, was able to establish itself in the hearts of users.

The Samsung Galaxy A20 in detail

The Galaxy A20 is equipped with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display and offers a sharp resolution of 720 x 1560 pixels. With its dual camera, consisting of a 13 MP and a 5 MP sensor, users can hope for great photo experiences, even if the technical data now seems a bit outdated.

For the technology fans: The device is powered by the Exynos 7884 processor and originally runs on Android 9.0 (Pie), although an upgrade to Android 11 is possible. The battery has a capacity of 4000 mAh and supports 15W charging.

As with many Samsung devices, the colors Black, Deep Blue, Red, Coral Orange and Gold are available, giving the A20 an attractive look. With a price of around 100 euros, it remains an interesting option for those looking for a good mid-range smartphone, even if it has now entered retirement phase.

The future of the A20 motorway and that of the Galaxy A20 both seem to be marked by different challenges, but both have found their place in the news and in people's everyday lives.
