In impressive news for the German industry, global crane manufacturer Liebherr announced a significant investment worth several hundred million euros on November 5, 2025. These funds will flow into the comprehensive modernization of the production site in Biberach an der Riß, Baden-Württemberg. This is a strategic undertaking that is being smashed with the aim of creating new jobs and further improving the business location Mercury reported.
The Liebherr factory in Biberach has established itself as one of the leading manufacturers of tower and mobile construction cranes since it was founded in 1954 and will now be comprehensively modernized in several phases by 2034. The first phase will be financed with a double-digit million sum and includes targeted training offers for employees. Managing director Werner Seifried emphasizes that it is essential to adapt the location to increasing market requirements.
Modernization and future prospects
The planned modernization will include the realignment of production as well as the introduction of modern workplaces and digital processes. After completion, around 500 top-slewing cranes, over 200 mobile construction cranes and 3,000 tower pieces will be manufactured in Biberach every year. However, it remains unclear whether these measures will create new jobs in the region in the long term. Dietrich Birk, Managing Director of the VDMA Baden-Württemberg, describes the investment as a strong signal for the region and leaves room for optimistic future prospects.
Liebherr is not just a crane manufacturer - the company based in Bulle, Switzerland, has developed into a multinational corporation over the last few decades. With over 130 companies operating in eleven divisions, Liebherr employs more than 53,000 people worldwide and achieved sales of around 14 billion euros in 2023.
