Mötzingen is facing a housing crisis: citizens are urgently demanding changes!

In the quiet community of Mötzingen, a recent survey of 3,155 households painted an impressive picture. Of the 965 returns, an impressive 96.4% of those surveyed reported a high quality of life in their place of residence. The survey shows that people aged 40 to 49 and long-term residents who have lived there for over 10 years are particularly satisfied - 96.8% drew a positive conclusion. But appearances are deceptive, because the residents also have their worries.

Positive aspects that the people of Mötzingen value are the village character of the community, the picturesque location and the good infrastructure. This includes shopping opportunities, a family atmosphere and a wide range of leisure and sports options that are actually impressive. However, the people of Mötzingen are dissatisfied with the traffic situation, the poor public transport and a lack of restaurants and retail. In addition, 67.3% of those surveyed complain that the existing apartments are hardly affordable.

Calls for change

Rent prices and the supply of living space are an urgent challenge. Over 82% of those surveyed do not see enough rental apartments in the community, 79.9% feel that the housing supply is not diverse enough. In addition, 67.9% are in favor of designating additional commercial space. The wishes are clear: young people are looking for more sports and leisure activities, while 61.1% of older Mötzingers want to be able to live in their own, looked after home when they get older.

Citizens' concerns cannot be ignored. There is a lack of parking space and traffic seems to be a hot potato in some places. Suggestions for improvement include parking bans on main streets, more parking spaces in residential areas and speed controls. Despite these challenges, the population is very satisfied with the services provided by the municipal administration - 92-95% rate the school and care positively.

A positive sense of community

What remains? A strong sense of community and a high level of identification with Mötzingen. The most popular places are the castle and castle square, the leisure area and the adventure playground. Many citizens also associate their place with important events such as the Fleckenfest or private milestones such as weddings and births. It is clear that it is not just the numbers that count here, but also the community.

At a time when international developments such as the current challenges at Air Canada and the upcoming strikes by flight attendants - which have received enormous media coverage - are also influencing our everyday lives, the question remains how municipalities deal with such problems. The committed mayor and a competent administration are highlighted as key factors for the positive development of the community. Mötzingen has clear ideas - now it's time to implement them.
