On the night of June 30, 2025, a tragic discovery was made at the “Tiefen See” in Maulbronn (Enzkreis): a lifeless person, presumably a missing swimmer, was rescued by a police patrol. The 47-year-old man had been wanted since Sunday afternoon after he went swimming in the lake with an acquaintance early in the morning. The friend had left the lake before him and discovered his clothes and a backpack some time later, which triggered the search. However, there is currently no official confirmation of the man's exact identity and the circumstances of his disappearance, reports said star.
The alerted rescue workers reacted immediately: a huge search was initiated with 38 firefighters and helpers from the German Life Saving Society (DLRG). In addition to divers and sonar boats, drones and a helicopter were also used to search the “Deep Lake” for traces. Despite intensive efforts, the search had to be temporarily stopped at around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday evening because no evidence of the man's disappearance was found.

The man was finally rescued at around 2:30 a.m. that night. The lake was then temporarily closed to support the investigation and take further safety precautions. The “Deep Lake” has been a public bathing lake since 1898 and was originally created by Cistercian monks. On this tragic day there was also another swimming accident in Wyhl am Kaiserstuhl, where a 30-year-old woman died on the bank of an quarry lake, despite resuscitation measures.
The circumstances surrounding the 47-year-old man's disappearance remain unclear. It is to be hoped that a careful clarification of what happened will soon shed light on the matter. This is an extremely difficult time for the relatives and friends of the missing person, in which they are dependent on support, while the community in Maulbronn greets the news with shocked silence.
