Police mistakenly storm Ravensburg apartment: family shocked!

On December 6, 2025, a police operation in Ravensburg caused excitement and incomprehension. A family that has been living in the city since 2023 was mistakenly stormed by a special operations team (SEK) after confusion arose about their living situation. According to SWR it was initially assumed that only the family of one suspect had been reported. However, the Stuttgart police headquarters quickly made it clear that the affected family was actually legally registered in Ravensburg.

The dramatic events occurred on Monday afternoon when an unknown perpetrator threatened two men with an object that resembled a firearm and then fled. This incident triggered an extensive police operation with several patrol cars and heavily armed officers on Wangener Strasse, with the SEK from Göppingen also being called in. The situation led to the temporary closure of the road and an intensive search that lasted several hours, as Schwäbische reports.

Confusion and consequences for the family

The operation, which ended in an erroneous search of the refugee family's apartment, left those affected with great fear and uncertainty. Lawyer Süleyman Yildirim clarified that his clients are the legal tenants of the apartment and that there is a registration certificate. He also criticized the xenophobic comments made on social media about the incident. The police department publicly apologized to the family and assured them that they would not suffer any harm as a result of the incident, while at the same time accepting responsibility for the damage to the apartment.

However, the police did not provide any information about the exact background to the operation or possible connections to other searches. Rumors of another mistaken search were also denied. It is emphasized that contact with the family is planned as part of the processing of the incident.

More frequent attacks on refugee shelters

This incident occurred in a tense situation affecting refugee accommodation in Germany. According to an investigation by the Federal Ministry of the Interior, 218 politically motivated attacks on such shelters were reported in 2024, an increase compared to 167 in 2023. There were 28 violent crimes in which a total of 14 people were injured, including children. While the number of attacks on refugees outside of shelters has fallen, the safety of residents in shelters themselves remains a concern, as Tagesschau reports.

The Ravensburg incident is a worrying example of the challenges faced by refugee families and raises questions about security and integration. The city is called upon to ensure safe and respectful coexistence in order to reduce prejudices and restore trust in public institutions.
