B 313 will be closed for months: major construction work begins now!
From Tuesday, July 8th, the B 313 between Engelswies and Sigmaringen will be completely closed for several weeks. The Tübingen regional council has announced extensive renovation work on the road surface, which is expected to last until the beginning of September. The affected sections extend over a total length of around 4.1 kilometers and also include the routes between Vilsingen and Inzigkofen and Sigmaringen. These measures are part of a larger plan to maintain and renovate the road infrastructure, as schwaebische.de reports.
Traffic will be rerouted during construction. The diversion of regional traffic takes place via the B 311 in the direction of Meßkirch, followed by Menningen and Krauchenwies to the L 456, before returning to the B 313 to Sigmaringen. The construction work between Engelswies and Vilsingen will be carried out from July 8th to 30th, while the work in Inzigkofen and Sigmaringen will take place in parallel. From the end of July the road to Inzigkofen will temporarily be passable again, but in Engelswies the closure will remain in place until the beginning of September.
Future investments in infrastructure
The renovation of the B 313 is part of another comprehensive renovation plan in Germany that deals with the growing construction sites and the challenges of the dilapidated infrastructure. The federal government plans to invest around 15.4 billion euros more in the coming years, primarily in motorways and federal highways, to ensure better road quality for all road users. n-tv.de reports about the rising construction prices and their influence on financing, which is expected to increase in 2024.
Other parts of the B 313 are also being renovated in sections, such as the area from the Sigmaringen district border to Sauldorf-Krumbach. However, this work, which covers a length of 2.6 kilometers, has already been completed since September 2021, as also confirmed by the State Government of Baden-Württemberg reported.
The big picture in view
It is crucial not only to look at new projects, but also to focus on existing roads. Transport ministers and politicians from various parties are calling for a course correction in order to actively address the renovation backlog and provide the necessary funds for the maintenance of the roads. After all, unnecessarily postponing renovation work could lead to even greater problems on our roads in the future.
