Mega celebration in the stadium: 50 years of Schulwerk Augsburg duly celebrated!

Big cheers in the Augsburg stadium! On October 11, 2025, the school organization of the Diocese of Augsburg celebrated its 50th anniversary with a mega event that was impressive. Over 23,000 students from Swabia and parts of Upper Bavaria streamed into the arena to celebrate this special occasion together. The Augsburg rapper Rubi ensured the right atmosphere on stage, while more than 2,000 supervisors and stewards ensured the safety and care of the young guests.

Organizing this big festival was a truly mammoth project that took almost a whole year. In order to bring school children from various cities such as Feuchtwangen, Nördlingen and Lindau safely to Augsburg, 320 buses were used. The older students were also heavily involved: over 500 of them volunteered to help run the event. Just in case, there were “lost-and-found” stations where children who had lost connection could be picked up.

Celebrate and learn together

The festival was not only a dazzling event, but also worth discussing among teachers and parents. School director Peter Kosak emphasized that the event was not intended as a classic ceremony, but was organized together with the students. The school system originally started with just nine schools, today there are 46 that are characterized by Christian values and social commitment. The offer is also aimed at children of other religious affiliations.

In order to strengthen social cohesion, clothing items were collected for the “Mine becomes yours – sharing teaches” initiative. The proceeds benefit educational projects in Bangladesh. Another highlight was the penalty shootout, in which Bishop Bertram Meier as well as Digital Minister Fabian Mehring and Media Minister Florian Herrmann competed against the students. The reward for the young goalkeepers: five days without homework!

Education across borders

However, education does not stop at the school gates. An important component of the school is also international exchange, for example through the “Erasmus+” program, which is successfully implemented at the St. Bonaventura High School in Dillingen. Here, students have the opportunity to get to know partner countries such as Poland and Italy. They recently enjoyed a week full of exciting activities in Lucca, where they stayed with host families.

Organizing these exchanges not only promotes personal skills such as self-confidence and the ability to work in a team, but also contributes to a better understanding of other cultures. The “Exchange Makes School” initiative works to ensure that all young people have access to such programs, regardless of their individual requirements.

In this sense, the 50th anniversary of the Schulwerk is not only a reason to celebrate, but also an impetus to continue on the path of education - both locally and internationally.
