On the night of Monday, June 16, 2025, a devastating fire broke out in Edenhof, town of Penzberg, which severely affected a farm. According to the South German newspaper An agricultural building caught fire, which resulted in a massive alert to the surrounding fire departments.
Fifty firefighters from Penzberg, Antdorf, Bichl and other surrounding communities were deployed with twelve vehicles to fight the flames and prevent them from spreading to the neighboring house. Despite the quick response, the property's threshing floor was completely destroyed, causing estimated damage to the owners of around €500,000.
The dramatic situation was made even more difficult by the evacuation of a family of five from the adjacent house. Several animals, including six calves and rabbits, could not be rescued during the operation, adding to the tragedy of the incident. The Mercury reported that the fire department was still busy extinguishing the fire on Monday and removing hay and firewood to eliminate possible embers.

At the scene of the incident, the emergency services were able to set up an additional water supply from Loisach and Ludwig März Street to support the extinguishing process. The firefighter who discovered the fire by chance was returning from vacation when he saw the flames and immediately alerted the emergency services.
In the background, the Weilheim police are now investigating the cause of the fire, although no conclusive statements have yet been made. The causes of agricultural fires are a significant issue in Germany. There is currently no nationwide record of such incidents, as shown by the “Stable Fires” initiative, which itself collects information on fire events and their consequences for farmers.
