Disaster protection in Bamberg: Exercise strengthens emergency services for emergencies!
On October 25, 2025, the second district-wide exercise of the section command centers (AFüSt) took place in the Bamberg district. A total of 31 municipalities and administrative communities took part in a realistic simulation of leadership work at a high pace. Again Wiesentbote reports, the main goal of this exercise was to consolidate the structures within the AFüSt and to optimize interaction in crisis situations.
In a demanding scenario, the participants had to process around 30 simulated mission reports per section in a short time. An automated feed of reports into the system ensured that everything ran smoothly, while the mobile situation map ensured the continuation of operations and an overview of the situation. Another focus was on communication with the district operations center (KEZ) in the Strullendorf respiratory protection center.
Communication and cooperation in disaster control
Particularly important was the requirement for regional forces and special equipment via TETRA and Sat-HRT. During the exercise, feedback on processes, communication and documentation quality was collected from members of the district fire inspection. Representatives of aid organizations and the police were also able to gain valuable insights, such as Wiesentbote holds on.
District fire chief Thomas Renner and deputy district administrator Johannes Maciejonczyk emphasized the importance of such exercises in order to create clearly structured communication channels and practice using digital management tools. District Administrator Johann Kalb took the opportunity to find out about the situation and processes in the disaster control management group. The findings collected will be incorporated into future training and further education measures, which promises essential progress for disaster protection in the district.
Digital alerting in disaster control
In the context of digital communication strategies, the fire protection, emergency management and disaster control working group of the Federal Association for the Protection of Critical Infrastructures e. V. (BSKI) published a best practice guideline for “digital alarm and emergency communication”. This is aimed at operators and organizations of critical infrastructure and covers important aspects such as how digital alarm systems work and communication between internal and external bodies in an emergency. Like on the BSKI website can be read, reliable information in dangerous situations is crucial for the effective coordination of forces and processes.
The guideline offers comprehensive insights that are particularly aimed at increasing the security of critical infrastructures. Michael Kahlert and his team are ready to work with experts and continually improve digital alarm and emergency communication.
Overall, the successful implementation of the exercise in the Bamberg district shows how closely collaboration and digital innovations are linked in disaster control. It is therefore essential to continue such exercises in the future and to actively put the learning progress into practice.
