Environmental protection summit: Ebermannstadt honors the best for the planet!
On September 22nd, 2025, the environmental protection and sustainability prize was awarded in the Forchheim district as part of the old town festival. The award winners are Zukunftshaus Forchheim and the Cave and Karst Franken Research Group, who were honored for their outstanding commitment to environmental protection.

As part of this year's Old Town Festival, Ebermannstadt experienced a celebratory highlight: the awarding of the Forchheim district's 2025 Environmental Protection and Sustainability Award. On September 22nd, this important award was presented by deputy district administrator Rosi Kraus. The winners are the Zukunftshaus Forchheim, run by the Forchheim for Future e.V. association. V., as well as the Franconian Cave and Karst Research Group. Ebermannstadt's mayor Christiane Meyer congratulated the winners and acknowledged their outstanding commitment to environmental and nature conservation. ", Wiesentbote reported.
The environmental protection and sustainability prize comes with a total prize money of 1,500 euros, which was distributed evenly between the two prize winners. The awards, which were made in the Lebenshilfe Forchheim wood workshop, are in the shape of an oak leaf, inspired by the American red oak - the tree of the year 2025.
The future house Forchheim
The Forchheim Future House stands for practice-oriented approaches to promoting climate and environmental protection. With over twenty volunteers, the association Forchheim for Future e. V. a repair café under the motto “Repair instead of throwing away”. Here, citizens can have their electrical and mechanical devices repaired free of charge - a wonderful way to conserve resources and reduce waste. The planned new projects include a bicycle rental station. The Future House is a meeting place and informs the public about important environmental and climate protection issues.
Cave and Karst Franconia Research Group
The Franconian Cave and Karst Research Group received the honor for its outstanding commitment to protecting and preserving the caves and karst features of Franconian Switzerland. Steffl Kraus and Biggi Hoffmann accepted the award on behalf of the group. The FHKF has set itself the task of promoting research and training of its members in specialist areas such as cave surveying and first aid. Information events are also offered on an ongoing basis to raise awareness of the valuable cave habitat. This own initiative is not only an example of civic engagement, but also an important contribution to preserving our environmental nature.
In addition to the environmental protection and sustainability award, the importance of donations for environmental and climate protection should not be underestimated. Despite the population's high awareness of environmental issues, only 3.2% of donations from private households in Germany went to environmental and nature conservation in 2023, although 36% of Germans would be willing to donate money to environmental protection projects. Donations help support various initiatives, from direct greenhouse gas reductions to political commitment to greater climate protection. In times when environmental and climate protection are becoming increasingly important, supporting such organizations is crucial in order to continue their work sustainably reports the Federal Environment Agency.
The multifunctional approaches of organizations such as the Zukunftshaus Forchheim and the FHKF show that committed people are at the heart of environmental protection.
