Karin Thaler remembers: Farewell to Rosenheim Cops” brother Hannesschläger
In an emotional look back, Karin Thaler, known as “Marie Hofer” from the popular “Rosenheim Cops”, remembered her late series brother Joseph Hannesschläger. The actor, who died in 2020 at the age of 57 after a serious illness, left a deep void among his colleagues and viewers. How Focus reports, the close connection between Thaler and Hannesschläger was something very special and extended far beyond the scenes of the popular crime series.
The “Rosenheim Cops” are celebrating an impressive 25th anniversary this year. “It makes you all the sadder that Joseph is no longer here,” admits 60-year-old Thaler. Their time together in front of the camera was characterized by a chemistry that contributed to the popularity of the series. From 2002 onwards, Hannesschläger played the role of Chief Detective “Korbinian Hofer”, while Thaler has appeared as his sister for over two decades. “We were like siblings,” she describes and says that saying goodbye to Hannesschläger was a slow and painful process for the entire team.
A farewell with a lot of sadness
When Joseph Hannesschläger became seriously ill and announced in October 2019 that he was suffering from an incurable neuroendocrine tumor in the gastrointestinal area, it was a serious blow for Thaler and the entire crew. How Mercury reported that the tumor had already spread to the liver. It was decided not to let the character “Korbinian Hofer” die, but to let her move to Husum - a careful solution to respect Hannesschläger's illness without offending the fans.
Thaler, who was present at her long-time colleague's memorial service, remembers not only the filming, but also the warm moments outside the set. “I feel like I knew Joseph really well,” she explains. Her emotional look back is part of a broader tribute to the actor who played a crucial role in the series and helped make the “Rosenheim Cops” what they are today.
A look back at the beginnings
The two ensembles began their collaboration 25 years ago with a casting that was both exciting and nerve-wracking for Thaler. “I had to audition as his sister, and he was already cast for the role,” she says with a smile. So began a fateful partnership that grew over the years and developed a deeper friendship. “We laughed a lot together and got through the serious moments together,” she looks back.
The “Rosenheim Cops” have developed into an integral part of the German television landscape over the years. With Hannesschläger's unforgettable performance and Thaler's consistent performance, the series has always entertained the audience wonderfully. Even though there is great sadness for Hannesschläger, his legacy in the world of the “Rosenheim Cops” remains unforgettable.
