New hall for DLRG Bad Soden-Salmünster: 200,000 euros for disaster protection!

There is reason to be happy in Bad Soden-Salmünster: The local group of the German Life Saving Society (DLRG) recently received a grant for 200,000 euros. This was personally handed over to Mayor Dominik Brasch by District Administrator Thorsten Stolz. These funds will be used to build a new vehicle hall with storage space, which is of crucial importance to the local group. This hall is intended not only to ensure the operational capability of the DLRG, but also to optimize the processes for the volunteers who are very committed to swimming and rescue swimming training, in the water rescue service and in disaster control.

The DLRG Bad Soden-Salmünster now has 162 members and is part of the Main-Kinzig district's water rescue team. In his speech, District Administrator Stolz emphasized the importance of the DLRG in civil protection and emphasized how important well-trained and reliable rescue workers are. Particularly in times when climate change increases the challenges in disaster protection, the attractiveness of volunteer work is more in demand than ever.

Volunteering in the water rescue service

The DLRG has been active in the water rescue service for over 100 years and has earned a permanent place in the public consciousness with its symbol, the “peeping eagle”. The DLRG not only ensures thorough training for its lifeguards, divers and boaters, but also ensures safety on rivers and lakes during rescue services. Volunteer helpers log impressive hours of work, as evidenced by the 921,000 hours in Württemberg over the last 25 years. The commitment also motivates young people to think and act in a charitable manner.

The new construction of the vehicle hall was initiated at exactly the right time. Due to the unusability of the previous building at the outdoor pool since June 2025, a temporary solution had to be found with a tent hall on Wilhelm-Bratfisch-Straße. Andreas Hummel, the chairman of the DLRG local group, was grateful for the support and emphasized the relevance of volunteering in this community. Maik Heidemann, chairman of the DLRG Main-Kinzig district, also praised the funding decision and was pleased with the appreciation shown to the voluntary work.

Public danger prevention

The DLRG is not just an organization dedicated to water rescue services. Your Rapid Response Group – Water Rescue (SEG-WR) can be alerted in the event of emergencies on and in the water. These groups take on important tasks such as searching for and rescuing drowning people, averting environmental hazards or disaster control operations. Equipped with motor lifeboats and diving equipment, they are able to react quickly to various situations.

The new hall not only promises a more gas-friendly work area, but also an improvement in operational capability, especially in regions where many bodies of water are highly frequented without guard stations. The DLRG is therefore an important element of civil protection and should not be underestimated when it comes to water safety. It makes a significant contribution to preventing accidents and providing quick help in emergencies.

For the DLRG Bad Soden-Salmünster, the new construction of the vehicle hall creates the basis for a successful future, which gives volunteer work a good hand and meets the high demands that society places on the water rescue service.
