Women in Focus: Traveling exhibition highlights political participation!

The traveling exhibition “Women in Focus” opened its doors on June 3rd at the Vogelsbergschule Lauterbach. Around 140 guests came to this celebratory event, who attended the speeches by AWO district chairman Heike Bohl, district administrator Dr. Jens Mischak and State Secretary Katrin Hechler took part. This initiative aims to make women's voices and demands visible and translate them into concrete wishes and goals, organized by the Vogelsberger newspaper.

The exhibition, in which students from class 11 ASP are involved, addresses important social issues such as the wage gap, poverty in old age and the compatibility of family and career. In this way, attention is drawn to the great commitment of the young women who present their perspectives and concerns through posters, collages and objects. Dr. In his speech, Mischak noted that women are severely underrepresented in local politics in Vogelsberg, with a share of only 20%. This number is well below the desired target of 30%.

Women in local politics

State Secretary Hechler emphasized the need to promote women in local politics and create a strong environment that supports their participation. This exhibition is therefore not only a creative project, but also an act of political mobilization. The Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth is working on an action program to increase the proportion of women in local bodies. How bmfsfj.de reports, the ministry has already selected ten new model regions that will receive financial grants of 5,000 euros for measures to promote women. The aim is to create structural changes that improve women's participation in local politics.

The traveling exhibition, which will be on display at the Vogelsberg School until June 13th, will also tour the AWO social center and then to cities such as Herbstein, Schotten, Homberg and Alsfeld. This initiative is supported by the federal program “Democracy LEBEN” and the AWO, and the design of the exhibition was created by Ute Kirst. As part of this exhibition there are not only works of art, but also many active discussions between visitors on the topics mentioned.

A strong network

The commitment of organizations such as AWO, VdK and Familienbündnis shows that diverse actors in the region are striving to focus on women's concerns. Discussing the challenges and opportunities that women face in society is more important than ever today. The traveling exhibition offers a platform to promote this exchange and to strengthen women's political and social participation. This also illustrates the great importance attached to promoting gender equality.

The entire project is a step in the right direction to increase the proportion of women in decision-making positions and ensure a fairer society. For further information about the traveling exhibition, those interested can visit the website Vogelsbergkreis visit.
