Söhre clearly loses against Empor Rostock – home win in the arena!
On Saturday evening, October 6th, 2025, the Sportfreunde Söhre experienced a bitter defeat in the 3rd handball league against HC Empor Rostock. With 26:33 (8:18) the Söhre had to admit defeat to the hosts in the sold-out Rostock Arena Tschaikowskistraße, where 705 spectators provided an impressive backdrop. This was the first home win for Empor this season, which further fueled the mood among the fans.
From the start, Empor Rostock was the dominant team. After just four minutes it was 4-0 for the hosts, and the sports fans only really got going late in the game. Coach Sascha Bertow was forced to take an early break, but this attempt to wake up the team initially bore no fruit. The deficit grew from 6:1 (8th minute), 11:3 (13th minute) to 15:5 (23rd minute), which noticeably caused problems for the Söhre players.
Fighting second half
In the first half, the Söhre were unable to set any pinpricks in attack and went into the break with a clear 8:18 deficit. After the break, however, the team had a significant improvement. They increased their performance and showed a fighting attitude that made the second half more balanced. Nevertheless, the deficit was too big to make the game exciting.
Empor Rostock was able to manage the lead confidently and at one point had a comfortable lead of 14 goals (25:11, 40th minute). In the final phase, however, the Söhre showed character and started a small 5-0 run that brought the final score to 26:33. This comeback quickened the fans' pulse, even if it wasn't enough to turn the tide.

The following players entered the top scorers list for Sportfreunde Söhre: Alexander Thiel and Tom Hanel each scored 5 goals, followed by Jonas Rost, Yannik Ihmann and Gunnar Lehrke with 3 goals each. In addition, Tom Folger, Linus Noah Freiwald and Norman Kordas each scored twice, while Johann Scherbanowitz contributed one goal.
Despite the defeat, Sportfreunde Söhre are still chasing points in the 3rd league. In this league, which is organized in a two-leg format, the teams have to be careful not to end up in the bottom three, as they are relegated to the regional leagues. At the top, the teams are fighting to qualify for the promotion round, from which two promoted teams can emerge, while the best three are qualified for next season's DHB Cup.
