Metronome accident near Buchholz: train crashes into burning branch!

A worrying incident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, October 8, 2025, on the railway line between Bremen and Hamburg near Buchholz. Shortly after 12 p.m., a metronome train traveling at around 120 km/h got stuck on a large branch that had fallen through a fallen tree onto a noise barrier. This caused the branch to break through the overhead power line and immediately start a fire. The driver tried to brake quickly, but was unable to avert the accident. Luckily there were no injuries the AZ reports.

The fire department arrived quickly and was able to quickly extinguish the fire. Emergency managers from Deutsche Bahn, the federal police and the fire department worked closely together to get the situation under control. Due to the damage to the train, especially to the pantograph, Metronom now has to inspect the train more closely.

Impact on rail traffic

The railway line remained closed for several hours, causing significant disruption to rail traffic.
