Frauenhilfe Wendessen discovers the history of horticulture in the gardening museum!

On October 25, 2025, the Evangelische Frauenhilfe Wendessen went on an exciting trip to the gardening museum in Cremlingen. This first visit marked a new beginning as it was the first event as part of the Women's Aid monthly meetings. Renate Schultze led the excursion, which was both informative and sociable.

When they arrived, the participants were warmly welcomed by managing director Andreas Meißler. Board member Elisabeth Schwieger introduced the visitors to the fascinating history of commercial horticulture before everyone went on a tour of the permanent and temporary exhibition, which sheds light on the development of vegetable cultivation in the region.

Insights into the history of vegetable cultivation

The Gardener's Museum is dedicated to the diverse history of vegetable growing in Wolfenbüttel. The exhibition spans more than 500 years and covers topics ranging from the beginnings of agriculture under the Duke to current developments in vegetable growing. The stories of local gardening dynasties, whose traditions are continued to this day, are particularly exciting.

The exhibition is designed to reflect the architecture of a historic farmhouse. Various rooms are thematically developed in minimalist scenography. Hands-on stations and media stations, including audio stations, complement exhibits such as the “Cow Insurance Death Cash Box” and an old can from the Busch Cannery, providing a vivid glimpse into the history of horticulture.

Conviviality and enjoyment

After the educational tour, the participants could look forward to a cozy coffee table, organized by Doris Liefner and Christian Hogrefe. The sociable gathering not only offered an opportunity to exchange ideas, but also to reflect on the impressions of the trip and make new friends.
