Mengede dances: Lively encounters at Michaelmas Festival!
On Saturday, September 6th, the dance event “Dortmund dances VorOrt”, which was launched by TreffenVorOrt (BVO), will take place in the Mengede district. From 4 p.m., dance enthusiasts can shake a leg at the Michaelmas Festival in the dance floor in the Amthaus Park. Under the motto “Dance with us – stay fit!” Anyone interested, regardless of their dance experience, is warmly invited to take part. Claudia Wildenhues from TanzSportCommunity Bodelwickelh e.V. will lead the event professionally and ensure that it is an unforgettable experience for everyone. Silke Freudenau from Treffen VorOrt Mengede also has other dance dates in the district in her luggage that round off the range of events. The goal of this initiative is clear: to create a lively meeting place for seniors in Dortmund that promotes encounters and community.
Dance and community: A recipe for success for seniors
Promoting social participation is a central concern of the city of Dortmund. As dortmund.de reports, Dortmund offers a wide range of offers that particularly benefit seniors. Many creative, sporting and cultural events that serve to support active aging take place in the city's meeting places. There are numerous offers such as visitation and respite services that help seniors lead an active and self-determined life. The Dortmund Senior Days, which take place every two years, also offer an eventful platform to experience cultural diversity.
Whether dancing or at other events – the opportunity to make new acquaintances and maintain old friendships is particularly important for many seniors. They also find support in the senior companion service, which provides volunteers to relieve the burden on elderly people in need and to keep them company.
A completely different dance project also addresses the realities of seniors’ lives. The senior dance theater, which has been active for 14 seasons, is planning a new piece under the direction of Mark Hoskins that deals with memories and the perception of time. It comes to life when the dancers transform everyday situations from the German post-war period into movement and tell the stories of youth, freedom and rebellion. The premiere is scheduled for May 2025, and artist Barbara Huber is proud of the future implementation of the choreography. The entire project is an important part of Ballett Dortmund's cultural work and not only promotes the creativity of older people, but also intergenerational exchange.
Dancing for body and mind
Dance is not only an art form, but also an excellent way to promote physical and mental health. In a hectic world, dancing offers a welcome change. According to wirindortmund.de, the “Dortmund dances VorOrt” campaign not only creates a place of movement in the heart of the city, but also a place of community and exchange. The combination of exercise and social contacts is of immense importance for seniors in order to strengthen their mental and physical well-being.
With all of these offerings, Dortmund is well on the way to significantly increasing the quality of life for seniors and enabling them to lead an active, fulfilling life. Be there and take the chance to dance together and make new acquaintances at “Dortmund dances VorOrt” in Mengede!
