Rot-Weiss Essen wins 2-1 in Ingolstadt – On the way to the top of the 3rd league!

It was an exciting day for Rot-Weiss Essen fans when the team met FC Ingolstadt 04 on matchday 14 of the 3rd league. Under the gaze of 4,446 spectators in the Ingolstadt sports park, RWE secured their second success in a row with a 2-1 win. This triumph cemented their position at 4th place in the table with 26 points, just three goals behind second-placed Energie Cottbus.

Both teams had their chances in the first half, which ended goalless, but no goal was scored. RWE brought a breath of fresh air onto the pitch in the second half. Jaka Cuber Potocnik, making his first start, gave the visitors a 1-0 lead in the 51st minute. Kaito Mizuta increased the score to 2-0 just 26 minutes later, before Dennis Kaygin scored the next goal for Ingolstadt with a penalty kick (81st minute). Despite this challenge, RWE successfully defended their lead until the final whistle.

After the game and outlook

Coach Uwe Koschinat was pleased with his team's performance, especially with their solid defensive work. The next challenge awaits RWE on November 23rd when they face FC Energie Cottbus after the international break. The other games against 1. FC Saarbrücken, VfB Stuttgart II and SSV Ulm 1846 Fußball are also coming up, which makes for exciting weeks.

An important team update: Tom Moustier stepped in to replace the ill Klaus Gjasula, while Potocnik replaced Ramien Safi up front. The tactical changes seem to have worked and fans are optimistic that this positive development will continue.
