Choir highlight in Dortmund: Vivaldi and Gjeilo on November 29th!

On Saturday, November 29, 2025, an extraordinary choir concert will take place in the Holy Spirit Church in Dortmund. Under the direction of Juliano Suzuki, the Dortmund chamber choir TOTAL VOKAL and the Gelsenkirchen concert choir present two important works of choral literature: Vivaldi's “Magnificat” and the “Sunrise Mass” by the contemporary composer Ola Gjeilo.

The event starts at 6:00 p.m., doors open at 5:15 p.m. and the box office opens at 5:00 p.m. Entrance tickets are available for 15 euros (12 euros in advance), reduced tickets cost 10 euros for schoolchildren and students. Information about pre-sales can be found on the TOTAL VOKAL website. Advance sales take place at Pur – loses & feines in Saarlandstraße 118, Dortmund.

Participants and program

The concert will be accompanied by the 18-member orchestra group “kamerata Lupia”, which is made up of professional musicians. The solo voices include Laura Metzemacher as soprano and Sarah-Léna Winterberg as alto. TOTAL VOKAL was founded in Dortmund in 1985 and consists of around 35 singers. The repertoire ranges from sacred to secular music of various eras, including contemporary a cappella music. The last few years have been characterized by international performances for the choir, including in Belgium, Latvia and England.

The Gelsenkirchen concert choir, which was founded in 2019, is dedicated to classical choral symphonic literature and is pleased to contribute to the success of the concert together with TOTAL VOKAL. The aim is to strengthen choral culture in the Ruhr area and create artistic synergies that provide the basis for future collaborations.

Special inclusion

A special aspect of the concert is the inclusion of hearing-impaired guests. In cooperation with the Center for Deaf Culture, children, young people and adults can be invited to the dress rehearsal in order to experience and feel the vibrations of instruments and voices up close.

The concert on November 29th, 2025 is part of a two-day concert project that will continue on November 30th, 2025 in the Matthäuskirche in Gelsenkirchen. The concert starts here at 5:00 p.m. The artists hope to reach many music lovers from the region and look forward to numerous visitors who share their passion for choral music.
