On Saturday evening there was a sensational police operation in the area of ​​Autobahn 45 near Alzenau Nord. According to news.de, a witness reported at 5 p.m. that two people in a white VW Golf were consuming drugs. This happened on a gas station site in Langen-Bergheim. The police then got in the way to check the vehicle.

But the VW driver, a 20-year-old man from Hanau, stepped on the gas and hit a patrol car while reversing, causing property damage of around 3,000 euros. After this incident, the driver initially fled, but was able to be located due to the technology installed. First on the federal highway 486 and later on the Autobahn 3 in the direction of Aschaffenburg, the car was finally stopped in a single accident at a roundabout at the Alzenau Nord junction.

Drug test and further investigation

Despite joining the Autobahn 45 in the direction of Giessen, the driver managed to steer the vehicle to the Hanau junction, where the car stopped smoking with a defective tire. During the preliminary arrest, the right lane was closed until further notice. A drug detection dog discovered a small amount of drugs in the vehicle, which strengthened suspicions against the driver.

The young man, who has been arrested several times for traffic offenses in the past, is now being questioned by the police. A blood sample will be taken to determine whether he was under the influence of narcotics at the time of the accident. Given the incidents, it is likely that the driver will face serious consequences.

Legal consequences

This could be a serious matter for the 20-year-old. According to ADAC, driving without a license is a clear criminal offense that can be punished with heavy fines or, in the worst case, up to a year in prison. The revocation of your driving license due to drug abuse also requires a new application and a medical-psychological examination (MPU).

Another point that should not be ignored: The vehicle owner is liable if he allows someone to drive without a valid driver's license. For those affected, this could mean that they not only face legal consequences, but also financial burdens due to potential recourse claims from motor vehicle liability insurance, which can amount to up to 5,000 euros.
