Garbage container fire in Monheim: Police are investigating arson!

On the night of Friday, October 3, the fire brigade in Monheim am Rhein was called to a fire in a garbage container on Lichtenberger Strasse. At around 0:15 a.m., the fire brigade received the alarming call and immediately set off. The flames were already blazing so high that the garbage container burned completely. The property damage incurred amounts to around 300 euros, such as Super tip reported.

The police were only on site shortly after the fire department arrived. Initial investigations revealed that it was probably deliberate arson. No suspicious people were found at the crime scene, which is why officials are now asking for the public's help. Anyone who observed suspicious activity on Lichtenberger Straße during the night is asked to call 02173 9594-6350. Information on this is also available in the press release from Press portal available.

Arson - a worrying development

Unfortunately, arson cases have increased significantly in Germany in recent years. According to current surveys by the Federal Criminal Police Office, numerous cases were recorded by the police between 2013 and 2024, with garbage containers repeatedly going up in flames, particularly in urban areas. Such incidents not only raise questions about safety in public spaces, but also put a strain on the fire brigade and police in their work. The statistics show that this type of crime is not only a serious problem in Monheim, but is also commonplace in many cities. You can find out more about this in the detailed analysis Statista.

The investigators are now looking for answers and hope for support from the population in order to get better under control of this unsightly development. Maybe someone saw or heard more? Every hint can be decisive and help to prevent such acts from being prevented in the future.
