The crime wave in North Rhine-Westphalia never sleeps: On June 18, 2025, a comprehensive raid took place against an international drug gang that was active in several German cities and beyond. A total of 18 properties were searched, primarily in the cities of Cologne, Bonn, Bergheim, Frechen, Dormagen and Mönchengladbach, which the investigative authorities consider a significant success.
How RP Online reports, the investigations have been under the leadership of the central and contact point for the prosecution of organized crimes in North Rhine-Westphalia (ZeOS NRW) since May 2022. The gang had been involved in drug trafficking on a large scale for the past four years and had at least 70 kilograms of cocaine. During this raid, assets worth around 400,000 euros were seized, including five vehicles, high-quality watches, around 90,000 euros in cash and a large amount of cocaine. What is striking is that the alleged perpetrators, including a suspect from Mönchengladbach, have a variety of nationalities - from German to Greek to Albanian and Turkish origin.
A network in secret
Investigators discovered a well-organized network that communicated via crypto messenger services such as ANOM and SkyECC to conceal their criminal operations. According to information from WDR The operation spanned several countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland and Spain. A property worth €1.5 million in Spain was also confiscated during the arrests, showing how extensive the criminal activity was.
A notable aspect is that most of the suspects are between 25 and 62 years old and have hardly any criminal history. This organized crime group often uses inconspicuous methods to transport drug-laden vans. The proceeds from the sale are then invested in a network of shell companies in order to cover the trail of illegal transactions.
