Exciting adventures for children: discover Rheydt Castle at night!
There's a lot going on in beautiful Moenchengladbach right now - and there's exciting news, especially for our little ones! The Rheydt Castle Museum has created an exciting program for children ages 7 to 10, themed around adventurers and explorers. The events can be found on specific dates that are not yet known.
What can the kids look forward to? The event is divided into three exciting stations. First we go on a flashlight tour with Anika Simm, who takes the children through the castle at night and tells fascinating stories about the old walls. Afterwards, little visitors can expect a reading with Nicola Grosch, who brings the story “Algae Spaghetti” to life. Last but not least, there is a creative part with Martina Noetzel, where the children can create works of art with colorful neon colors. The entry fee for this adventure is 12 euros and groups are limited to 10 children each. The parents can stay at home for once!
A new chapter for the museum
The castle itself has recently undergone a major renovation, carried out by museum director Dr. Karlheinz Wiegmann was personally introduced with enthusiasm. As part of the renovation, which emphasizes the stately character of the 450-year-old manor house, historical beams were exposed and the walls were redesigned. The lighting has also been revised, giving the entire ambience a fresh look. In addition, the permanent exhibition was redesigned after 30 years so that the story of the Bylandt family, the builders of the Renaissance castle, can be told anew.
In addition, many exhibits that were previously inadequately presented or even in storage have now been prominently integrated into the exhibition. A highlight is the ancestral gallery in the knight's hall, which shows the portrait of Maria von Bongard for the first time. A “green exhibition room” with a Renaissance ceiling and exquisite furnishings also awaits visitors. Anyone who wants to experience the atmosphere of the castle up close has free entry during the opening week, which lasts until May 29th.
Technical innovations for an exciting experience
In order to offer visitors even more intensive access to the exhibits, an innovative app was developed. This not only offers information about the tour, but also a child-friendly version with the castle ghost Arthur and Paul the peacock. Points in the museum that can be scanned with the cell phone camera display additional expert information. The enthusiasm for the story is supported so perfectly.
Tours of the new permanent exhibition are planned on May 22nd, 26th and 29th at 2, 3 and 4 p.m. Interested visitors are cordially invited not to miss this special experience. The museum's opening hours are Tuesday to Friday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on weekends from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.; There are therefore numerous opportunities to visit the castle and discover the new exhibition.
