Construction delay in Rustengut: start of the second phase delayed to 2028!

A lot is happening in Rustengut, but not everything is going according to plan. On September 1, 2025, Mayor Natalie Bauernschmitt informed the building committee that the second phase of road and pipeline renovations in Rustengut would be postponed. The eastern area was originally scheduled to begin this year, but now residents will have to wait until 2028 or 2029. The western part of the Rustengut, which has been extensively renovated, has been completed since 2024, but the municipal utilities are faced with two major projects: the Holzweg and the Leistadt through-road. An additional project simply cannot be implemented in this tight time frame, which led to the postponement. House numbers 61 to 117 are affected.

The good news: Studies have shown that the pipes are in better condition than initially assumed. This makes planning for future work easier. Nevertheless, the quality of life of the residents is given top priority, which is why the structural measures are carefully coordinated.

A milestone in the Rustengut

A special bright spot is the inauguration of the newly expanded street “Im Rustengut”, which was opened with a celebratory ceremony on March 27, 2024. After more than two years of construction, house numbers 1 to 60 were able to move into a modern, attractive street that cost around three million euros. The mayor emphasized the importance of this project for the community and thanked residents for their patience during construction.

The renovation of the road is part of a larger initiative that was launched in 2013. A rethink became necessary after problems with asphalt pollution and inconsistent feedback from residents, which ultimately led to the decision to completely renew the road and not just replace the pipes. Despite the limited space, the burden on the residents was minimized through comprehensive planning and agreements. A big thank you also went to the Obermeyer engineering office and the Bender construction company for their flexible collaboration.

A new era for local residents

The inauguration not only marks the completion of the construction project, but also marks the beginning of a new era for the residents of Rustengut. Mayor Bauernschmitt had already announced at the ceremony that the discussion about traffic and parking lot signage had not yet been completed. There is still a lot of room for common solutions here.

Overall, it shows that Rustengut is an exciting place with a lot of potential. According to the dba platform, not only is there a lot of construction going on here, but top priority is also placed on sustainability and urban development. Projects are carefully planned and the vision is clear: a positive development for everyone involved, even if there are occasional delays. It will therefore be exciting to see how Rustengut will develop in the next few years.
