Security in Koblenz: Police increase presence and controls!

The police in Koblenz have taken active measures to strengthen the feeling of security in the city center and prevent crime. In a joint operation by the Koblenz police station and the city of Koblenz, increased presence and control measures are currently taking place, especially in the old town and city center. Again Mercuryist reported, important meeting points such as the Löhrrondell, Altlöhrtor, the central square and the pedestrian zone will be the focus of the controls. The aim is to ensure safety in public spaces and to strengthen citizens' sense of security.

A look at the first results of the checks shows that a total of 57 people were checked. Most discussions were calm and cooperative, and any violations were dealt with consistently. The police rely on early contact in order to nip possible conflicts in the bud and plan to continue the checks during the Christmas market. The police in the city of Koblenz emphasize their visibility and responsiveness during the Christmas season and would like to thank the citizens for their prudent behavior and support.

Controls against traffic noise

But controls are not only carried out in the old town areas. On February 21, 2025, the tuning control team of the Koblenz Police Department, supported by the Koblenz 1 Police Department, carried out checks in the old and inner city areas. The reason was numerous citizen complaints about so-called “posers” who drive through the streets in their loud vehicles. The complaints about unnecessary noise caused by hard acceleration and the roar of the engine could not be ignored. The aim of these measures was to identify and punish prohibited behavior in traffic.

The checks produced a sobering result: 19 vehicle drivers were identified because of unnecessary noise, and administrative offense proceedings were initiated. In addition, 3 vehicles without a valid operating license had to be stopped and had to interrupt their journey for the next steps. A total of 32 administrative offenses were detected in stationary traffic and 4 speeding violations on Peter-Altmeier-Ufer. Planned further inspections by the tuning control team and the city of Koblenz promise that the citizens will continue to care about the peace and quiet in the city in the future.

Police presence in public

These preventive measures are part of the basic tasks carried out by the police. As in Crime lexicon described, the police strive for a visible and physical presence in public spaces in order to prevent crimes and strengthen the population's sense of security. Whether through foot patrols or patrol vehicles – the dependence on visibility should not be underestimated.

The police presence enables citizens to quickly contact the police, while at the same time potential dangers can be identified early through active observation. Nevertheless, the continuous presence represents a challenge because it requires a lot of resources and the police have to be careful not to unnecessarily restrict people's freedom.

Overall, the increased deployment of the police in Koblenz shows that the safety of citizens is taken seriously and that a good hand is being used to ensure the necessary sensitivity in order to promote the population's feeling of security.
