The newly completed roundabout on Lindenstrasse in Speyer is a real win-win for drivers and pedestrians. Since July 18, 2025, traffic has been flowing again through the eastern branch of this important transport hub. The renovation, which began in September 2024, is now generating positive feedback. During this time, the Speyer Public Works (SWS) not only renewed the road surface, but also laid new transport and main pipes for gas and water as well as a district heating connection. This extensive work is part of a project that was realized with a total budget of 320,000 euros. Rhine Palatinate
One focus was on barrier-free access at the pedestrian crossings and the “Melchior-Heß-anlage” bus stops, for which a further 230,000 euros were budgeted. The city's construction department rated the work progress as “smooth and without any significant problems,” which is remarkable given the road closures and diversions that were sometimes necessary. However, due to unfavorable weather conditions, the work had to be extended by an additional week over two construction phases.
