Battweiler celebrates the first post -war kerwe: a festival of hope!
The village square in Battweiler shone for the first time after the turmoil of war in the festive gloss. The first post -war kerwe, which took place in 1947, was held despite the strict editions of the French occupying power. The committed village youth had set itself the task of bringing joy and joy into the community after the dreary years of war. This festivity should not only be reunited, but also restoring the invigorating feeling of normality. As the Rhine Palatinate reports, the local fire brigade commander made a petition to Zweibrücken to receive permission for the celebration.
The Kerwerede, an important part of tradition, had to be presented for examination in the run -up to the military administration in order to rule out unwanted political content. So the event was able to take place in a protected framework. People were able to celebrate by gathering in the Gasthaus Oster behind the village church, where a move with the Seegmüller chapel from Contwig and a Kerwanz were also organized. It was particularly concise that the musical performances had to end at midnight.
Cultural roots and today's celebrations
The Kerwe in Battweiler has a long tradition that is confirmed by the oldest villager Elfriede Engel. She lively remembers the celebrations before the war. This year, however, the Kerwe is celebrated without a bouquet and bouquet youth. The celebrations were moved to the sports home among the footballers, while Kerwemontag will take place in the Konrad-Loschky-Halle. The preparations are particularly important for the village community because it shows the connection.
The exact data for the festival are promising: On Friday, October 3, a slaughter festival begins at 12 p.m. in the sports home, with a pre -order recommended. An exciting Kerwes game between SV Battweiler II and SV Martinshöhe II follows at 4 p.m. On Saturday, October 4, at 6 p.m., the two teams SV Battweiler and SV Katzweiler. The band Hoselatz offers a musical highlight from 8.30 p.m. in the sports home. Sunday, October 5th, brings a morning pint at 10 a.m., followed by a youth football game at 11 a.m.
Nostalgia and innovations in the celebration culture
The Kerwemontag starts with a morning pint and brass music in the Konrad-Blosschky-Halle, accompanied by the "Blies Brass" formation. At 2.30 p.m. there is other festive accents with noise leather. At this point it becomes clear that the recent requirements and circumstances also shape the spirit of the celebrations.
The post -war history naturally shows many dark sides that cannot simply be forgotten in the years after 1945. However, the success of the Kerwe is part of the process of denazification and the difficult restoration of public life in the post -war period. Even if military control and denazification have been impaired in their political attitude, it was possible to enable and celebrate a community. Regional history reports that the big goal of re -establishing political responsibility and social order did not always go away without a trace and the development in the different zones went differently.
A look at today's Kerwe and the associated community shows how deep the roots of the traditions are enough. It is not only a festival of celebration, but also a moment of remembering what was once and what was created together.
While there have been many hurdles to overcome in the past, the event is now a symbol of what is possible despite various challenges. The Kerwe stands for joy, community and a start of a new time.
