Plön Library: The joy of reading for young and old – events starting soon!
Anyone who visits the city library at Krabbe 17 in Plön enters a lively place that is much more than just a place to go for books. Loud der-reporter.de, the library records around 36,000 visits annually and offers over 110,000 loans. With a collection of around 17,000 media for children and adults, the library has something to offer for everyone.
Led by Gaby Alkilani, who has been running the library since the beginning of 2023, a large number of new ideas have already been implemented. Alkilani has made it her mission to inspire children in particular to read, which is crucial for their cognitive and linguistic development. A highlight in the program is the “Book Minis” offer, which is intended for the little ones from 6 months onwards. The next event will take place on November 27th at 10 a.m. - participation is free, but registration is recommended.
Reading aloud encourages imagination
There are always reading events for children on the program. The next date for the popular reading grandmothers is on November 11th and 25th at 3:30 p.m. Children ages 4 and up can look forward to exciting stories here. In addition, a reading marathon will take place on November 21st from 3:30 p.m., which will be enriched by four picture book cinema events as part of the nationwide reading day. These striking initiatives show once again that the new director has a good knack for creative reading stimuli, as does the oebib.de describes.
The city library is not only interesting for little bookworms. For adults there are regular short story readings and a reading group called “Krabbe 17”, which takes place every 17th of the month at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who would like to take part simply needs a valid user card for the “Open Library”. This keeps the gates open both during the day and in the evening from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m., allowing for flexible reading.
Diverse events and offers
The library has many other treasures in store: children and young people can look forward to regular reading events, and adults are also invited. For example, there was a special Halloween opening on October 31st, with the doors open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Activities such as making monster bookmarks and a silent reading party for adults were offered for Library Day on October 24th. Such cultural events promote a sense of community and make it clear how important the library is as a social meeting place.
In addition, school and kindergarten groups can book tours of the library to show children the joy of reading. This is a step that is supported by cooperation with schools in order to gain a permanent audience at author readings and to sustainably promote reading oebib.de emphasized.
The staff times are also family-friendly and can be found on the library's website: On Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, employees look after readers from 9:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., but on Wednesdays only in the afternoon. Another plus point is the book delivery service, which is available to people with limited mobility and thus makes it easier for all Plön residents to access literature.
The Plön City Library is truly a place where cultural diversity and the joy of reading are experienced. If you haven't stopped by yet, you should definitely do so. For further information and to register for events, it is worth taking a look at the official website: www.stadtbuechereiploen.de.
