Itzehoe Eagles lose test match: start of the season in danger!
One week before the start of the BARMER 2nd Basketball Bundesliga season, the Itzehoe Eagles were able to play one last test in their own hall. The opponent, the Svendborg Rabbits from Denmark, knocked the Eagles out of the hall with an 81:63 victory. The game was evenly balanced for long stretches, but the team from Itzehoe still had to accept a 31:33 deficit at halftime. During the second half, the Rabbits showed stronger performances and increased their lead to almost 20 points.
However, coaches Timo Völkerink and Max Rockmann remained calm and emphasized that the final result was not their priority. Rather, their focus is on improving the team structure. Völkerink was pleased to note that the number of ball losses was significantly reduced compared to the previous test match in Bernau, which indicates progress in ball movement. Good moves were often made, even if some108 opportunities remained unused. What was lacking, however, was defensive stability. The coaches want to improve this in the last week of training.
The look forward
On Saturday, September 27th, the Itzehoe Eagles will have their season opener against EN Baskets Schwelm. The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. in the Lehmwohld sports center. The anticipation for the start of the season is great among players and fans alike. Tickets are available both in the ticket shop on the Eagles website and in the fan shop of the Behrens & Haltermann sports department in Itzehoe.

Currently around 68 million people in Germany are familiar with basketball, even if interest has stagnated. Nevertheless, the German Basketball Association has recorded an increase in the number of members since 2015.
Basketball in Germany
