Chaos in Edingen-Neckarhausen: Drivers have an accident under the influence of alcohol!
On Monday morning, June 17, 2025, there was a remarkable traffic accident in Edingen-Neckarhausen that kept the local police on tenterhooks. A driver lost control of her vehicle at the roundabout at Neckarhausen Castle, the cause of which remains unclear. The incident caused the car to drive over a traffic island, resulting in damage to a sign and the car's oil pan. Fortunately, the driver was uninjured. Nevertheless, oil poured out of the vehicle, which led to the fire department and a specialist company being called in to remove the oil, while the police closed the road to the Neckar ferry to traffic until the necessary measures were completed. Further information about the course of the accident is currently not available, as RNZ reports.
Apparently not an isolated case: just one day later, several accidents occurred in Edingen-Neckarhausen that were caused by the drivers' influence of alcohol. A 37-year-old man lost control of his Mitsubishi while driving on Neckarhauser Strasse on Tuesday evening around 9 p.m. He collided with a parked VW, causing his vehicle to turn onto its driver's side. According to the driver, he was distracted by his cell phone. An alcohol test showed he had a blood alcohol level of over 1 per mille, which led to medical attention and the taking of a blood sample. In addition, his driver's license was confiscated and he is being investigated for drunk driving, as reported by [Wochenblatt-reporter.de/edingen-neckarhausen/c-blaulicht/edingen-neckarhausen-rhein-neckar-kreis-update-verkehrsunfall-unter-lokaleinfluss-hoher-sach Schaden-entstanden_a602239].
Another incident with similar consequences
The evening didn't end for the police because another accident occurred with a 19-year-old who was also driving a Mitsubishi. He also lost control and drove off the road until he collided with a parked VW and pushed it around eight meters. His car fell onto the driver's side, but the young man was able to free himself and suffered minor injuries. Here too, an alcohol test showed over 1 per mille. As with the 37-year-old, his driver's license was revoked and he is being investigated for causing a road traffic hazard. The severe damage to both vehicles results in an estimated property damage of around 20,000 euros.
These incidents shed light on a worrying reality in Germany. According to the latest statistics from the Federal Statistical Office, which extend up to 2023, alcohol-related traffic accidents remain a serious problem. The figures suggest that the number of accidents has increased over the years, highlighting the need for even stricter traffic controls and awareness campaigns.
