IHK training scouts celebrate ten years of successful career entry!
A very special project has been active in Bavaria for ten years: the IHK training scouts. The idea behind it is simple but effective. Trainees from IHK training companies inform students at schools about their training paths and career opportunities. At their most recent network meeting at Roberto Beach in Aschheim, two outstanding trainees from Rosenheim were also honored: Maximilian Weigel, who is learning as an automobile salesman at Auto Eder GmbH in Kolbermoor, and Michael Rosner, who is learning his trade as a specialist in restaurants and event catering at the IHK Academy. There were over 100 trainees on site, a sign of how important this network has become.
Florian Kaiser, head of the vocational training department at the IHK for Munich and Upper Bavaria, emphasized the great commitment and motivation of the scouts in his speech. Last year they attended around 570 classes with around 12,000 students and thus took advantage of the opportunity to reach over 5,000 visitors at 44 events. The goal is clear: to get students excited about vocational training and to avert the shortage of skilled workers in the region.
The role of training scouts
The IHK Training Scouts are not just a source of information; they offer direct access to the real experiences of trainees. They present job profiles, talk about their everyday work and explain further training and development opportunities. After their presentations, the scouts are available to answer questions from the students in order to ensure comprehensive career orientation.
Since the program started in summer 2015, over 1,850 scouts have reached more than 80,000 students in around 3,900 school classes. The positive response shows that the initiative is generating great interest. There are currently more than 400 scouts from over 200 companies active and they are being prepared for their tasks through seminars and coaching. The target group is all types of schools: from high school to secondary school to middle school.
Skills shortage in focus
The need for such projects is supported by various studies and analyses. According to that Federal Institute for Vocational Training A persistent shortage of skilled workers is forecast, which could put a significant strain on the economy. In today's world, when vocational training plays a central role, initiatives such as the IHK Training Scouts are essential to guide young talent into new careers.
The Ministry of Economics is supporting this valuable project, which not only aims to reduce information about the training courses on offer, but also aims to highlight career opportunities. Training scouts provide crucial support for students so that they can make the right decisions on their career path.
