ERC Viernheim thrilled: 13 medals at the Hessian competition!
An exciting weekend for the ice skaters from the Viernheim Ice Sports and Roller Sports Club (ERC): On June 14th and 15th, 2025, they competed in the Hessian youth competition in Darmstadt. A total of 36 talented runners ensured a spectacular event at the state performance center. With a lot of commitment and passion, the young athletes were able to demonstrate their skills and compete with other athletes.
The yield is impressive: the ERC Viernheim won a total of 13 medals, including two gold, six silver and five bronze. These successes not only reflect the individual talent of the participants, but also the club's excellent youth work. The youngest participant in the competition was just four years old, which underlines the club's breadth and commitment to youth development.
Successful coaching team
Another highlight was the support from a dedicated team of trainers consisting of Julia Hahn, Laura Schreiner, Maxime Schlosshauer, Jennifer Mandel, Selina Braun, Franziska Pfeiffer and Natalie Gzella. They worked hard together with the runners for months and prepared the athletes for this competition. Caroline Jung and Melina Bernauer acted as judges for the ERC and thus added another professional aspect to the event.
Now, after the competition, amateur athletes can look forward to a short break from competition. This will last until the club championship in mid-August. Meanwhile, the competitive runners are preparing for the South German Championships in Bayreuth, which starts on June 26th. The ice skating season still has a lot to offer!
Tradition meets creativity
That's not all, the upcoming club presentation on roller skates also promises a lot of entertainment. The ERC Viernheim has made a name for itself when it comes to presenting creative productions. After the successful performances of “Belle and the Beast” in 2018 and 2019, viewers can now expect “Arabian Nights” on December 6th and 7th, 2024 in the Waldsporthalle in Viernheim. The story of Aladdin and the Genie not only comes to life through impressive backdrops and stirring music, but also focuses on friendship and selflessness.
The preparation time for such productions is around three months. The team takes care of costumes, stage technology and catering in order to offer the audience an unforgettable experience. Every time an attempt is made to make the performances even more spectacular through solo performances and large group formations.
Trendy ice skating
Why is this sport so popular? In Germany, around 0.49 million people regularly take advantage of the opportunity to go ice skating. This enthusiastic community shows that ice skating is not only competitive, but also recreational. The history of this sport goes back a long way - the first ice skating club in the world was founded in Edinburgh in 1742, while the first clubs in Germany followed around 120 years later.
As the various events and competitions related to figure skating and speed skating show, the ice is a place full of possibilities. Germany has a total of 24 medals in these disciplines at the Olympic Games, including an impressive 8 gold medals.
With all of this news and successes, it is clear: The ERC Viernheim has ice skating firmly under control and remains a central contact point for talent and ice skating fans in the region.
