Festive highlight: Fortuna Röhrda celebrates 130 years of choral singing!

A big anniversary was celebrated in small Röhrda last week. The mixed singing club Fortuna Röhrda is celebrating its 130th anniversary with a grandiose festival in the Wilhelm-Schellhase-Halle. A celebration of the 125th anniversary was originally planned for September 2020, but the corona pandemic put a stop to the plan. The festival was rescheduled under the motto “125+5”, and it became noticeable how much music connects the village community.

The celebration program was a colorful bouquet of musical performances, opening with the song “Music is number one” conducted by Horst Busch. The voices of the men's choir rang out with tried-and-tested folk songs such as “Beim Kronenwirt” and “Für Alle” by Hanne Haller. A real treat for those present, including District Administrator Nicole Rathgeber. In her speech, she emphasized the importance of music and choral singing before presenting a certificate of honor and a monetary gift.

Concentrated competence and gratitude

Particularly noteworthy was the appreciation that Klaus Trollhagen, chairman of the Central German Singers' Association, showed the choir. He not only presented a voucher for a song score, but also a certificate for the 125th anniversary. “We are proud of our traditional choir community,” he emphasized. Other well-wishers included Michael Schröter and the mayor of Ringgau, Mario Hartmann. Edda Walter and her women's choir Mixed Colors from Berneburg also created a festive atmosphere.

On behalf of the local clubs, Georg skull and teacher Anke skull addressed those present with words of thanks, which also underlined the solidarity and sense of community in Röhrda. Skull, who is only 26 years old and has been mayor since 2021, is involved in both the singing club and the fire department and in numerous club activities. His goals are clear: to bring the generations in Röhrda together and to further strengthen voluntary commitment. “The village community has to stick together,” he explains, and his family is always at his side, be it mowing the lawn or organizing garbage collection.

A celebration of culture and community

Singing not only has a great tradition in Röhrda, but is also a lively part of community life. This bond is best demonstrated in the singing club, which is firmly anchored in the local cultural landscape. Choral singing is more than just a beautiful melody; it is an expression of community, joy and tradition, which is still very popular today. Music connects generations and promotes the village community.

Horst Busch motivated the singers to the finale with a thrilling performance of the song “Viva la Vida” by Coldplay. It was the icing on the cake of a successful evening, in which the board members warmly thanked everyone who contributed to this ceremony. The future of the choir may bring challenges, but with such strong support and passion for music, this community is well prepared for future tasks.

A look at the history of choral singing shows that this art form goes back a long time and plays an important role not only in Germany but worldwide. Whether on celebratory occasions or in everyday life, choral singing has a power that connects people and creates memories.

The anniversary of the Fortuna Röhrda singing club is therefore not only a highlight in the club's history, but also a sign of the vibrant culture in the community. It will be exciting to see how the community continues to develop and what stories from the past Georg skull will keep alive in the future.
