Bloherfelder roundabout: three weeks of closure brings chaos for commuters!
In Cologne, preparations are underway for a comprehensive renovation of the roundabout in Bloherfelde. Starting next Monday, October 13, 2025, the roundabout will be closed for three weeks and this will present some challenges for commuters and residents. The measure is expected to end on October 31st. The reason for the closure is unpleasant signs of wear and tear that have become visible over the years. The roundabout, which was completed in 1999, is located on Mittellinie, Bloher Landstrasse, Bloherfelder Strasse and Wildenlohsdamm and carries significant daily traffic.
The extensive roadway renovation includes replacing the surface layer and milling work on the old roadway. In some areas, the asphalt binder layers are also being replaced and curbs and drainage channels are being repaired. Pedestrians and cyclists can pass through the construction site, although cyclists may have to dismount. But for car drivers, truck drivers and public transport users: plan detours!
Detours and traffic
The city of Oldenburg has set official diversions that are particularly designed for heavy goods traffic. Thousands of commuters from Ammerland are affected by the diversions. The diversion leads from Petersfehn via Brüderstraße to Friedrichsfehn and further via Friedrichsfehner Straße, Edewechter Landstraße and Eichenstraße to Bloherfelder Straße. The northern diversion also runs along Bloher Landstrasse through Ofen to Ammerländer Heerstrasse to Westkreuz.
It is expected that many drivers will use smaller roads to get around. This could lead to increased traffic on the affected routes, including Küpkersweg, Hörneweg, Hartenscher Damm, Uhlhornsweg, Schramperweg, Kennedystraße and Osterkampsweg. Bus route 309, which serves Wildenloh, Petersfehn and Friedrichsfehn, is also affected by the changes. Information about bus diversion has not yet been published.
Construction work in Kirchhatten
While the renovation work is just around the corner in Bloherfelde, work is also being done on the road surface in nearby Kirchhatten. The full closure of the roundabout has already begun and is expected to last until September 12th. The diversion routes are adapted to the needs of road users, so that a smooth flow is guaranteed here too. Pedestrians and cyclists can also pass through the construction site without having to take major detours.
The Oldenburg road maintenance department is responsible for the construction work and asks for understanding and consideration from all road users during these important infrastructure measures. Ultimately, it is about maintaining a safe and functional transport infrastructure.
It remains exciting for everyone involved in traffic in and around Oldenburg to see how the situation will develop. While the roads in the entire area are being repaired, we hope that the construction work will progress quickly and that traffic flow will soon be possible again without restrictions.
Current information on other construction sites in Lower Saxony that could also affect the traffic situation can be found, for example, at verkehrslage.de.
