Christmas magic in Cuxhaven: markets, music and literary highlights!

On December 6, 2025, a very special event took place in Cuxhaven's Lotsenviertel: Under the motto “Reading in the Shop”, local heroes of literature showed what their pens can do. Organized by IG Lotsenviertel, visitors had the opportunity to rotate between different shops. Not only were literary samples offered there, but live music was also served to add to the Christmas spirit. The Cuxhaven Schreibmöwen, consisting of Monika Ahlrichs, Angelika Ehrmann, Susanne Gerdes and Petra Welslau, presented stories and poems from their new book “Findings from Cuxhaven”. Admission was free, and anyone who wanted could secure a copy on site and have it signed by the authors. “We look forward to your coming!” was the warm invitation from the organizers, which attracted many literature lovers.

A special highlight was the performance in the Wohltmann store, where the writing seagulls told stories from the Lotsenviertel, including a mention of the store. In Olaf Stache's shop, the “Lighthouse Guys” played well-known Christmas classics - a wonderful musical accompaniment that invited you to linger. This combination of reading and live performance made the afternoon an experience for young and old.

Christmas markets in Cuxhaven

But the literary pleasure was only part of the festive activities in Cuxhaven. On Sunday, December 8th, the Christmas market opened its doors in the Altenbruch district. Visitors were entertained by social gatherings, the sounds of brass instruments and the range of pottery art as well as paper and wood works. Culinary delicacies were also not neglected. A children's carousel was already spinning with joy in the morning, and from the early afternoon many visitors flocked to enjoy the festive atmosphere.

Especially against the background of the unstable weather, Sven Wersien from the Christian Social Works launched a Christmas campaign in the “Aunt Emma” meeting center. The event took place on the premises of the meeting center, where there was a cozy browsing atmosphere with second-hand items and homemade offerings. Emy Heymann presented, among other things, “flotsam and jetsam pictures”, nativity scenes and Christmas figures made from casting clay. The overall popularity of the Christmas market and the many stands at the castle and in the spa gardens made for an atmospheric celebration.
