Rhein-Lahn District Council: Realschulen Plus remain in local hands!

Where are the schools in the Rhein-Lahn district headed? An exciting decision was recently made in the district council: three secondary schools plus in Bad Ems, Hahnstätten and St. Goarshausen will now be handed over to the district. This decision took place with 33 yes votes, despite an intense debate and the pressure of a high financial burden, such as the Rhine newspaper reported.

The secondary schools will be taken over by the previous sponsors, the municipalities of Bad Ems-Nassau, Aar-Einrich and Loreley. The Loreley School in St. Goarshausen in particular represents a special case because it is a joint school. The administration is now faced with the challenge of clarifying together with the ADD whether and how a separation of the schools in the network can be achieved.

Diversity of educational offerings

But what can students expect in these schools? The Realschule plus enables you to acquire an intermediate educational qualification, and there are even two different educational courses: the vocational qualification after class 9 and the secondary qualification I after class 10. At selected locations, students also have the opportunity to obtain the technical college entrance qualification after class 12. The project approach “Nobody without a qualification” ensures that even students without a qualification have a perspective, explains the website Education RLP.

Another exciting feature of the Realschule plus is the permeability between the different educational courses. This promotes the students' opportunities for advancement and allows a flexible transition between different levels. Special care offerings through small classes and increased weekly teaching hours play a crucial role. Voluntary all-day offers are also available to ensure optimal support for students in the afternoon.

Relevant information for parents

Students are entitled to admission to the nearest secondary school plus, although the decision about admission ultimately lies with the school management. If there are capacity problems, support can be obtained from the school authorities. There are also special regulations for newcomers from abroad, because here too the school management decides on school places. Primary school children are accommodated in the corresponding primary school, and the school management advises the families about the educational programs in the lower secondary level. After six months, a decision is made about whether to remain in the respective class in order to ensure that all students receive optimal support.

By taking over ownership and offering a wide range of educational offerings, the Rhein-Lahn district shows that it cares about the future of its students. We are excited to see how these changes will play out in practice and what opportunities will arise for students in the region.
