Christmas magic in Düren: Market opens with a festive program!
On November 24th, 2025 at 5 p.m. the time had finally come: Mayor Frank Peter Ullrich ceremoniously opened the Düren Christmas market. The festive atmosphere, which was musically accompanied by the youth brass orchestra of the Düren Music School under the direction of Sander Hendrix, can be felt right on the market square. Here the lights and the wintry atmosphere ring in the pre-Christmas season.
The stalls will be open daily from 11am to 9pm until December 23rd, with a possible extension to 10pm. The Düren Christmas market is a meeting place and offers an extensive program that leaves nothing to be desired. Numerous events will take place on the famous Christmas stage over the weeks. Björn Heuser, among others, will be inviting you to a sing-along concert, while the sounds of Graham Bonney and many other artists will also be heard. The offers at the market are tailored to all age groups: Children can look forward to concerts with Maike Toussaint and “Deine Kinderband”, which are specially designed for young visitors.
A program full of activities
A very special highlight will be Santa Claus, who will visit the market on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. from November 28th to December 21st. On St. Nicholas Day, December 6th, he even brings presents from 3:30 p.m. Another attraction will be the “Living Nativity Scene”, which will be presented by the “TC Wandervogel Merken Mandolin Club” on the third weekend of Advent, December 13th and 14th. The history of Christmas also comes to life here.
The Christmas market in Düren has a long tradition that goes back to 1974. At that time it took place despite adverse weather conditions and under a horse carousel. Since then it has continued to develop and is now considered a role model for many open-air events in the region. In recent years, the market has not only been restructured, but the atmosphere has also been enriched with a starry sky made up of 3,300 lights.
A market for all senses
Visitors can look forward to various stands that offer everything their hearts desire. From children's carousels to roasted almonds to handicraft products, everything is there. The gastronomic providers present regional delicacies, and for lovers of mulled wine there is a dedicated mulled wine house. All stands aim to provide visitors with an unforgettable experience. The stall operators are doing well and offer both traditional and modern Christmas food.
- Kinderkarussell (Fa. Cremer)
- Süßigkeiten (Fa. Adam)
- Backwaren (Fa. Keuter)
- Glühwein-Haus (Fa. Schütz)
- Handgefertigte Schmuckstücke (Fa. Perlkönig)
- Liköre (Fa. O’Donnell)
In addition to the numerous stands, visitors can also expect various musical performances that are on the program in the coming weeks. Starting with a jazz orchestra on November 27th and ending with Cologne Christmas music on December 18th, there is something for every taste. A Sunday open for shopping on December 14th from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. makes the visit even more attractive.
The Düren Christmas market has a lot to offer and a visit is not only worthwhile for locals, but also attracts guests from the surrounding area. The future of the market on the market square seems secure until the season ends on December 23rd and the anticipation for next year can already be felt.
