50 years of friendship: DJK Bonzel and SC Winkum celebrate their anniversary!
Last weekend, numerous sports enthusiasts gathered in Winkum to celebrate a very special anniversary. DJK Bonzel and SC Winkum celebrated 50 years of friendship, which is based on an opposing relationship between the two clubs. Like the Sauerland courier reported, the two sports communities have been connected to each other for over half a century and regularly invite each other to their respective Whitsun sports festivals.
The celebrations in Winkum were a great success. Over 40 guests from the Sauerland traveled to celebrate the special occasion. The origin of this close connection goes back to 1964, when Anneliese Benken spent a year with the Großhaus family in Bonzel. The foundation stone for the sporting friendship was laid at the later wedding to Norbert Hellekes from Bonzel. Norbert suggested that the Winkumers come to Bonzel for the sports festival, and the tradition was born.
A look back at the celebration
The anniversary celebration reached its climax with a look back at the Winkumers' first visits to Bonzel, who were initially accommodated in guesthouses and hotels. The first return visit followed in 1975, and since then friendships have flown back and forth. Many Bonzelers even spent their vacation in Winkum and also visited the discotheque in Löningen. Now SC Winkum is looking forward to its own celebration - next year it will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
The SC Winkum sports festival, which took place from July 4th to 6th, 2025, was a great event. It started on Friday with an exciting Fireball tournament, followed by awards. Saturday was then filled with various sporting events and led to the popular sportsmen's ball in the evening. The highlight was a large breakfast buffet on Sunday, which was available to all club members. Almost 38 participants from Sauerland took part and enjoyed the atmosphere.

The upcoming old men's dates, such as the Hans Schulte tournament on May 23, 2025, can increase the anticipation of further sporting highlights. Fans have the opportunity to purchase SC Winkum fan items from the kiosk during home games or directly from Anne Albers.
The close connection between DJK Bonzel and SC Winkum proves once again that sport is not just a leisure activity, but also creates friendships and community. Who knows what the next 50 years will hold for these two clubs?
